Our Top 5 Picnic Spots Wanaka

Yes, we all know Wanaka, a place with a lake, mountains, brunch outfits and extreme sports. Being a local we get to enjoy all the secret spots surrounding us. I am going to let my secrets out and show you were our hiding places are and why they are so freak’n amazing!

Jason’s Clearing Wanaka

JUST WOW! This little, not-so-little spot overlooks Dublin Bay and the outlet. Admire another side to Wanaka you may not have seen yet.

Directions are tricky but here is an idea of how to get there. On google type in Bull Ridge, and you will see it is a cul de sac with parking to one side. Walk up the hill and you will find the clearing and a lonely rock. Find the spot you want to call home for your next few hours of peace and set up your very own picnic

Wanaka Station Park

A park hidden amongst giant old mature trees, once occupied by a sheep station that covered the south side of the lake. This beauty of a park stretches out to the lake, with a pathway leading to the iconic ‘Wanaka Tree’ and follows all the way to Glendhu Bay. With plenty of space to gather your friends and family for a day picnicking at the park with your favourite lawn games.

An Old Tree- Lake Hawea

On a calm quiet sunny day, this would have to be my all-time favourite spot. You are sitting on the top of the cliff overlooking the lake and the mountains, watching time stand still. It is like time stops for a few moments and you feel a little lighter in those moments. This spot is prone to high winds, so if you have had a beautiful day here, it must have been your lucky day.

Eely Point- Wanaka

Nestled beside the boat ramp, to your right is a little bay. A bay sheltered by our strong Northerly winds, slightly hidden by scrub and a car park right there for your convenience. My girlfriend and I decided to picnic here for Valentines Day. We ordered pizza and drank wine while admiring the sun go behind the mountains. Eerly Point is the perfect sunset picnic spot.

Dinosaur Park- Wanaka

While the mothers picnic by the lake at sunset the kids can play in the park while the blokes cook a kiwi BBQ using the park’s facilities. This picnic spot is the ideal place to take in the views with the family.
